Application Deadline is 11:59 PM (PST) Friday, February 9th, 2018.
Letters of Recomendation are due by 11:59 PM (PST), February 16, 2018.
You can apply to the MARC, IMSD, UC LEADS, and Packard Programs simultaneaously with one application.
IMPORTANT: Only UCSC students or transferring UCSC students are eligible to apply for the STEM Diversity Programs.
The application components include:
- Completed online Application (this includes essay questions, see questions below)
- Resume or CV (Career Center Resume Guide)
- Copy of Your Unofficial Transcripts (just print them from your student portal)
- Copy of Your Unofficial financial aid support (if you do not get financial aid, you ARE still eligible for the programs, please state in the online application)
- Two letters of recommendation from a faculty or senior staff member (These should be submitted separately. They may be emailed directly from recommender to email@example.com). Effectively obtaining a letter of recommendation
Essay Questions: Please limit your responses to 200 words for each question.
ESSAY QUESTION #1 Please describe your personal background and what experience(s) led you to where you are today in your education? Do not hesitate to express relevant extra curricular activities, and any interesting or unusual circumstances or obstacles in your personal or academic background.
ESSAY QUESTION #2 Please describe any UCSC relevant work experience in the sciences, research, or as a volunteer. Also, what you have learned from these experiences? and how these experiences make you a good candidate for the program?
ESSAY QUESTION #3 After you obtain your bachelors degree, what are your long-term academic/career aspirations? If you are unclear about a specific career/academic path, please share a number of possibilities you foresee in your future. How do you plan to reach these goals?
ESSAY QUESTION #4 All programs housed in the STEM Diversity Programs office aim to diversify the field of science by serving students from underrepresented communities, what is your approach to working with diverse student bodies and how will you contribute to this mission?
ESSAY QUESTION #5 How are the STEM Diversity Programs going to support your academic/career goals? What do you hope to gain from it this experience?

If you are unsure or not ready to apply to one of our MARC, IMSD, CAMP, or UC LEADS programs, please look into our RAD (Research Affliates for Diversity) program.
This program offers:
Bio 15: Seminar Course where students learn to present research and give feedback to their peers.
Community Events: This includes a variety of workshops and events to promote self-growth and professional development
Study Groups & Tutoring Services: You are eligible to participate in facilitated study groups and private tutoring sesions offered each quarter by MARC, IMSD, UC LEADS, AND Packard.
Graduate School Application Support: You are eligible to receive assistance and guidance from the STEM Diversity Programs Director regarding Graduate School Application Process.
Journal Club: This is a 2 unit independent study seminar where students learn how to read, evaluate, and discuss scientific journal articles.
