Catherine Manea

Lab Group: Dr. J. Xavier Prochaska

Major: Astrophysics

Research:

I spent this past summer analyzing the spectrum of a newfound, rare Wolf-Rayet star.  This star is only the fifth of its kind, and it was found entirely by accident in a completely unrelated survey looking for quasars! This leads us to believe that this certain kind of late type, low temperature WR star might not be as rare as previously thought. Without obtaining its incredibly unusual spectrum, this star can easily be missed, and there may be many more of these just waiting to be discovered.
