Krystal Ruiz-Rocha

Lab Group: Enrico J. Ramirez-Ruiz

Major: Physics

Research: The focus of my project was on gaining a deeper understanding of the genealogy of stars by studying their chemical evolution and kinematics. We are analyzing data from the simulation titled Eris, which has been constructed with the goal of reproducing the Milky Way, to decipher the history of stars that have been enriched with Oxygen and Europium as a result of Type II Supernovae and Neutron Star Mergers, respectively. In particular, we study whether they have formed primarily within the galaxy or whether they were born inside smaller galaxies that were later accreted into the Milky Way.
